By language
In the bar on the left of your dashboard, you’ll see a number of ways to filter your search.

To change the language of your search, click the dropdown menu and change the filter form ‘All Languages’ to the language of your choice. NewsWhip supports more than 100 languages.
By publisher location
The second option is to filter by location. It is important to note that this is based on the location of the publisher itself, and says nothing about the audience.

To change the location of your search, click the dropdown menu and click which continent(s) you are interested in content from by clicking on the tick.

If you want to filter out content from any location you can do that by clicking on the cross.

To refine even further, you can click on the arrow next to the location to see a country-level breakdown.

You’ll then be able to include and exclude countries from the continent you clicked into, in the same way as described above.

Some of our country choices, including the US, UK, and Canada, also have further regional breakdowns for local publications. Clicking the arrow next to the country of interest will get you to this more detailed view.

By category
Filtering by category is the next option in the search bar, and this allows you to filter results by how they are categorized in our curated topics.

This works in a very similar way to the location filters above. Open the drop down menu and select the category/categories of interest by clicking on the tick next to them. You can select more than one at a time in this way.

Similarly, you can exclude any categories you are not interested in by clicking on the cross next to them. You can select more than one at a time in this way.

By headline/full text
If you’re searching web articles you can choose to either search the headline or the full text of the article.

Searching by headline searches the headline, url, and summary for your keywords, and is best used when using common keywords or popular search terms.
Searching by full text searches the full text of articles for your keywords. This function is best when looking for niche keywords or phrases, or comments attributed to specific individuals that are more likely to appear in the body of the text.
Grouping similar articles
By default, NewsWhip’s technology groups articles that are about a similar / the same subject.

You can expand those articles by clicking the dropdown option in the widget feed.
You can toggle this option on and off in the sidebar.
By Posts vs. Posts and comments
In a similar vein to headline vs. full text for web articles, for Reddit posts you have the option of just searching the original post vs. also searching the comments associated with that post.

What you choose here will depend on how niche your search is. For broader topics, Reddit posts are a good place to start, whereas for specific products and events, you may want to also include comments.
Saving your changes
All of the changes above can be made in the search bar, and once you’ve finished tweaking you’ll need to save your changes by clicking the ‘Save’ button in the top right of the search bar.

That’s all the changes you can make in the search bar, but there are also a couple of customizations you can make within the dashboard itself, which you can read about in the dashboard section here.
