Snapchat Geo Search
Geo Search provides real-time hyperlocal monitoring of publicly-shared snaps. It was built to help newsrooms discover eyewitness coverage from the scene of a developing event- to inform and enrich their coverage.
You can search for any location in the world from countries and cities to landmarks and buildings. As you begin to type, you'll see a list of matching places returned, to help you make a selection.
Note: We'll search for any snaps that were uploaded from within the bounds of the visible map. You can use the Zoom In/Zoom Out and Drag controls to set the right bounds.
When you create a Geo Search, we'll show you what's happening in that location now. However, you can easily switch to a Custom Date Range to see what happened between a specific date or time range.
You can set a From and To date, up to 90 days in the past. You can also specify a time range.
Note: When specifying a Time range, all sections are in your browser's local timezone.
You can sort results by "Oldest" and "Most Recent"
Caption Search
A caption search will attempt to match against both freehand captions and caption filters.
For both Geo and Caption Search we return a maximum of 500 results per search. To be included in the response, snaps must meet the following criteria:
Published to "Our Story"
- excludes peer-to-peer sharing
- excludes snaps published to "My Story"
By a member of the Public
- excludes official accounts
- excludes publisher accounts
Most recent (i.e. not Expired or Deleted)
- Expired: Snaps published to "Our Story" are live for 90 days
- Deleted: If a Snap is deleted, it will not appear in the search results
If your Time setting is "Last 24 hours," then we will fetch new Snaps for your search every 2 minutes.
