“Trending” shows you a list of the people, places, and organizations that have recently spiked in popularity in the media.
The strip of Trending topics will appear above your newsfeed for all Web searches. The topics are pulled from the results of your search so that you can quickly identify what’s trending in any region, topic or for any keyword.
Note: Trending is currently available for English-language content only.
How can I view more information about a Trending topic?
When you click on a 'Trending' topic, your newsfeed will filter down to content related to the selected topic.
The “Trending” list will also update to sub-topics related to your selection.
How does NewsWhip determine what appears in Trending?
The 'Trending' topics are selected from the summaries of articles based on how often they are mentioned in your search and how much engagement the related articles have attracted, relative to other topics in the same search.
We then rank the biggest topics based on how much the attention on the topic has increased recently, compared to previous hours, days, or weeks (depending on the time selected in Spike).
There was an earthquake in Costa Rica. Why does "Earthquake not appear as a Trending Topic?
Trending surfaces only the people, places and organizations that are trending - rather than keywords. In this case, you're likely to find “Costa Rica” amongst the Trending topics.
Can I see Trending topics for a specific Location or Topic?
Yes. Trending is customized to your current filter set, so you can customize the list by adding filters.
What happens when I click or tap a Trending topic?
When you click on a Trending topic, your newsfeed will filter down to content related to your selection. You can click the 'X' next to the Trending topic to deselect it.
What is Trending not visible in my search?
Trending is currently being rolled out for English language Web-based content (News & Blogs). We'll keep you updated as Trending is rolled out for other regions and networks.
